Ag in the Classroom Summer Courses Being Offered
Teachers from the USD #417 and USD #481 areas can apply to take the “Ag in the Classroom” summer courses. Scholarships will be awarded to kindergarten through senior high teachers. Courses offered: “Horticulture & School Gardens” will be held in Wichita June 15-19 or in Olathe July 13-17 for 3 hours credit, “Connecting Your Classroom to Kansas Agriculture” will be held in Manhattan June 8-12 or in Kansas City, MO July 20-24 for three hours credit.
The courses are sponsored by the Kansas Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom (KFAC). Their mission is “Connecting Kansas Classrooms to Agriculture.” This connection takes place through graduate courses, in-school assembly programs, and free teacher resources such as educators’ guides, student magazines, and on-line lesson plans.
The scholarships will be awarded to kindergarten through senior high teachers. Each teacher selected will be provided a full-tuition scholarship for the graduate credits. The Morris County Conservation District and Morris County Farm Bureau each will donate $100 towards a scholarship for a Morris County participant.
A $250 application and materials fee will be required of teachers selected to receive scholarships for the “Horticulture & School Gardens” and “Connecting Your Classroom to Kansas Agriculture.” Applications will be accepted until the classes are full with priority on those submitted prior to May 1st. Forms and information are available at the Morris County Conservation District office or by calling 620-767-5111, Extension 101. For more information visit the KFAC web site: www.ksagclassroom.org.
The Morris County Conservation District and Morris County Farm Bureau contribute each year to these scholarships, and numerous Morris County teachers have completed this course.
