NOMINATIONS BEING ACCEPTED FOR CONSERVATION AWARDS
Announcement that the Conservation Awards Program will again be held in this county was received today by the Morris County Conservation District.
This program is being sponsored by the agricultural committee of the Kansas Bankers Association. Last year’s “Key Banker” was Richard Kramer, Central National Bank in White City. Last year awards were made to the following Morris County persons: Deines Farms – Banker Award; Herpich & Son Herefords - Windbreak Award; Picolet Ranch– Grassland Award; No Recipient – Wildlife Award, No Recipient – Buffer Award; Steve Nelson Family – Water Quality Award and Sanford Farms LLC received the Twin Lakes WRAPS Water Quality Award. All awards will be presented at the District’s 76th Annual Meeting scheduled for January 30, 2016.
These awards promote the recognition of farmers and ranchers who have completed projects designed to improve environmental quality or conserve natural resources such as soil, water, wildlife and energy. Other award categories are for Energy Conservation, Water Conservation, and Water Quality, in addition to the existing categories for Soil Conservation, Windbreaks, and Wildlife Habitat.
Nominations will also be taken for the Grassland and Buffer Awards, and can be made by any person in the county.
