Dear High Priority Landowner:
The State Conservation Commission, Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Division of Conservation (DOC), and Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE) have approved targeting Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) State cost-share funds in both Water Resources (WR) and Nonpoint Source (NPS) programs to six watersheds in Kansas for FY 2016 that begins July 1, 2015.  Our own Twin Lakes Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy (WRAPS) HUC 110702010101 and HUC 110702010102) (pink on the above map) in Morris County was one of the targeted watersheds with an initial allocation of $100,000.00/6 plus WRAPS complimenting with an additional $65,000.00.
Eligible practices will be to reduce siltation and nutrients.   You could be ranked for approval to receive funding for terraces, waterways, sewer systems, alternative watering systems to entice livestock away from streams, etc., for maybe up to a considerable 85% cost-share!  These six watersheds were targeted due to the cooperation between WRAPS and Conservation Districts (CD’s), how quickly funding sources were allocated, plus location of monitoring stations.  The CD and WRAPS will be working closely together with high priority landowners like you to get these Best Management Practices (BMP’s) on the ground complimenting each other’s cost-share programs for Morris County.
We currently are taking sign-ups now, and will be ranking projects by July 1st.  Please contact our office at 620-767-5111 for more information or to talk to a representative from the CD – Jo Bea Titus-Hutchinson or WRAPS – Angela Anderson.  We are looking forward to working with you.  Our knowledgeable Council Grove Field Office Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) staff will be glad to assist you with any planning or design you may need on your land.

     Sincerely yours,
